Meet the Teachers

At Crossroads Christian Academy, we believe that our teachers are more than just educators – they are mentors, role models, and spiritual leaders for our students. Our dedicated and passionate faculty is committed to providing a rigorous and nurturing educational experience rooted in our Christian faith. We are proud to introduce you to the individuals who are making a positive impact on the lives of our students every day.

Shelly Everly - K4 and K5

Shelly has been a teacher with CCA for 10 years; but has almost 20 years of teaching experience. Shelly is a dedicated mom to her 2 children and absolutely loves being a grandma. She is the K4/K5 teacher and has been instrumental in inspiring a love of learning in her students. The love Miss Shelly demonstrates to her students is equally returned with their love for her. Miss Shelly is the most consistent disciplinarian, and her students learn very quickly if they choose to disobey, they have chosen to get a consequence. Her passion and commitment to education is reflected in everything she does. She is a true testament to hard work and unwavering commitment, and we are grateful for her contributions to CCA. We look forward to seeing her bring her fun and innovative teaching methods to the kindergarten students this coming year.

Mary Horvath –1st and 2nd

Mary Horvath is a brand-new addition to Crossroads Christian Academy this year. Her and her husband Mike share 5 beautiful children and 2 amazing grandbabies. Mary was raised in South Carolina and moved to Ohio as a young adult. She attended Thompson College where she studied Automotive Repair and studied for her ASE certification. Mary puts my heart and mind into everything she does. Mary is extremely excited to be a part of CCA and teach our First and Second graders and give them her heart and excitement for learning. She has a passion for foraging, cooking, fishing, and reading, when she is not busy helping her husband at work. Mary shares her home with 3 dogs and a cat that also keeps her very busy. Mary is an extremely hard working, and her dedication and work ethic makes her exactly the type of worker that CCA is lucky to have.

Laura York - 3rd and 4th

Laura is a highly skilled teacher. She studied at Hyles-Anderson College where she met and married Robert York, the Pastor of First Baptist Church of Streetsboro. Laura has been with CCA for 5 years. Last year was her first-time teaching 3rd and 4th; and she fell in love with teaching all their classes instead of only teaching History and Science classes she taught in previous years. Throughout her career, she has also taught Sunday school classes for all ages and served as a substitute teacher at CCA. As a mother of seven children and a devoted wife, Laura brings a wealth of life experience to the classroom. She loves learning right along with her students and incorporates many different aids to keep her students very engaged with their learning. We are thrilled to have her back and are eager for her students to experience the enthusiasm and excitement for learning that she brings.

Amanda Simmons – 5th and 6th

Amanda is another brand-new addition to Crossroads Christian Academy this year. She is a mom of 5 girls and wife of 18 years to Alex. Amanda has over six years of experience in teaching, having taught a variety of grades ranging from K-12 during those years. She particularly has a love for teaching art and math. Amanda counts it a blessing to be working and learning about her new students and helping them to succeed this year. When she’s not teaching her own children, she can be found outside hanging out with her chickens. Amanda also enjoys drawing, knitting, playing video games, and watching movies with her family. We are so excited to be adding Amanda to our staff. Her love for the Lord and passion for teaching is going to be a great addition to our school!

Abigail Bachman – 7th and 8th

Abigail is entering her 7th year of teaching with CCA. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education she has taught multiple different grades throughout her teaching career ranging from 2nd- 8th. Abigail also took on the task of being the principal at CCA from 2018-2023. With the Lord’s guidance this year she and her husband, Ryan, have taken on the amazing task of Youth Pastor and wife at FBC of Streetsboro. While Abigail is taking a step back and only teaching part-time at CCA, she is still very much an integral part of CCA. We are so thankful for her love and dedication that she has poured into CCA and her passion to continue to help in as many ways as possible. In her spare time, she loves to crochet and it has become so successful that she has made it a side business! Abigail loves to impart wisdom and new concepts to her students with a particular passion for teaching Math and reading. She is eager to contribute to the growth of the school and is dedicated to helping her students reach their full potential both mentally and academically.

Jennifer Slaughenhoupt - 9th-12th, Principal

Jennifer went to Hyles-Anderson College and graduated with her bachelor’s degree in teaching Secondary Education. She is a proud mama of 3 girls and 1 boy who are the loves of her life. Jennifer is also the drama and art teacher and along with the whole student body is able to have an amazing performance every Christmas! Jennifer’s passion about teaching and imparting wisdom mixed with the word of God is the joy of her life; and she loves that she gets to do it daily!! This year she has the honor of serving as the Principal of CCA. With big shoes to fill she is excited to help the school grow and prosper in every aspect.
